Mojo Mama (and the Hired Guns) | | | | Piano / Harmonica based Boogie and Blues with enough Sass to light your fire...
A piano / harmonica based boogie and blues trio (and five piece when we want to shake our tail feather)
Listen to Mojo Mama
We like to offer a mixture of sass and soulful blues, with an emphasis on good time energy, ‘danceability’ and having a laugh. We find our audience range from 25 - 70 as this is the kind of roots music that crosses generations, people may not know the words to every song but they'll understand the groove.
Mojo Mama & the Hired Guns are available to hire for your function! Please contact Laura direct on laura@lauracollins.co.nz
Mojo Mama & the Hired Guns are...
Laura Collins - Vocals
Laura’s had 20 years experience fronting bands, she’s often found in the Alt-Country scene, having recently released her second album ‘Cast a line’ – she describes her music as having ‘southern back porch roots, NZ heart with lots of soul on the side’.
In Mojo Mama she’s all about Sass and Soul and Letting loose. She’s grown up loving Bonnie Raitt, Koko Taylor, Debbie Davies and Rory Block but also likes to find her own spin on some of the classics.
Cindy Muggeridge - Keys
You’ll find Cindy burning the keys at all hours of the night and day, she’s just in love with that boogie and blues sound. She’s been influenced by listening to the likes of Otis Span, Dr John and Ramsey Lewis. A regular on the Roomfulla Bluz stage in Wellington, she often plays with Al Witham adding to his swamp mix.
Terry Casey – Blues Harmonica
As a performer Terry offers a unique jaunty energetic presence which is infectious to both band and audience. He has a solid background of more than two decades of performing in both NZ and Australia.
From his early years as a founding member of groundbreaking NZ R'n'B outfit 'Chicago Smokeshop' through to his forays in the ‘90s across the Tasman, most notably with Sydney based 'Terry Casey and the Contenders' , and most recently on the road with Bullfrog Rata, Terry has matured into an artist of rare depth and conviction.
"Terry Casey is totally in touch with the role of the blues harp"
Midge Marsden
George Barris – Bass Guitar
George is a journeyman of the NZ music scene. Known as a very tasteful bass player he’s played in a huge range of genres from folk to latin to rock ‘n roll back in one of his early bands Highway. With Mojo Mama George is laying down the grooves with style.
Earle Pollard – Drums
Earle is the other half of our engine room and he’s driving! Earle understands the special feel required for the blues and along with that brings enough positive energy to light a fire underneath us! Earle’s played with Bullfrog Rata and Midge Marsden to name but a few…
