Blues to the Temple
Laura Collins and the Back Porch Blues Band are heading to the Third Eye – Tuatara’s Temple of Taste to bring some of their warm-hearted brand of the blues to the temple on Saturday December 9th.
“The Third Eye has couches for lounging and some space to move in so we’re going to blend lounge and honky tonk and see what kind of a night we can make!”
No doubt the night will be defined by the players, none of whom are couch dwellers when it comes to their music. Wayne Mason will be firing it up on the keys, bringing boogie and blues joy, think Fats Domino, Professor Longhair and you’ll be in the right honky tonk. John O’Connor will be ‘letting loose’, a masterful, pedal-free guitarist who’s played with everyone along the way, from BB King to Kiri Te Kanawa. In the engine room George Barris on warm upright bass (in his early days part of ‘Highway) is joined by Pete Cogswell on the ‘back porch’ drums.
Collins, who is known for being an engaging front woman, likes to move between ballsy blues and soulful ballads, making them her own. You'll no doubt hear a little Nina Simone, a little Etta James and Laura's take on some unsuspecting men.
Laura says "Blues comes straight from the heart and that’s just how I like it, it’s accessible, joyful, heart full music and not only that it makes me want to move – what’s not to like?”
Laura and the Back Porch Blues Band will be adding their own brand of blues, boogie, soul and swing to The Third Eye – Tuatara’s Temple of Taste Third Eye on Saturday December 9th
